Having lost my checked luggage on the trip from Maryland to Munich, and having found my European cell phone to be dead and beyond resuscitation, I find myself again in the position of having to start over while abroad.
As before, documentation of this begins with a photograph of my new room.
Next, the view from my new room. According to Professor Rankin, it has been raining here in Munich for four weeks straight.
I passed last night in a hostel situated right next to the main station. Behold, the hostel bed!!!
I added this last because I thought it would be funny. Since all of my underwear minus one pair did not make the trip from New York to Germany, I had to pick up some more. German department stores, however, are indecipherable creatures from their floor layout (the ground floor was labeled 'E' - I have no idea what this might stand for) to the sizing of the clothes (who on Earth wear a 106?). Not surprisingly, the underwear also confused me, but only because I don't know clothes at all. Behold the replacement boxers! (Children should shield their eyes.)
The box said in small print on the bottom 'two-ply.' Something about my jet-lagged, addled brain made it think that 'two-ply' meant 'two-pair' and I did not realize that the supply of knickers that was to last until Monday was used up in its entirely last night, when I wore these selfsame to bed. Ugh. I'm going back to the main train station today to try to find an open clothing store and maybe two more pairs of underwear. Also some socks.
Until then, you will find my dirty clothes marinating in shower gel in my sink.
